HAPPY(?)

Oil on canvas

I always found the way sheet skin care masks cover emotions of those who wear them oddly intimidating. Talking to someone with a mask on becomes an eery experience as even when they laugh you can’t see any joy on their face, and the sound of laughter becomes emotionless. Aiming to capture the unexpected uncanniness of this ordinary situation, I decided to exaggerate it by creating an absurd situation in which two people are surrounded by symbols of happiness, while the masks make their faces look detached and emotionless.
