A painting I dedicated to my uncle who had to make major changes in life because of the pandemic and move back to Russia after living in the states for five years. 

 

In the painting, he is sitting at an outdoors East Village bar during his last night before the flight. The Christmas lights around us reminded me of fireflies or fairies, so I painted them as such since they are a symbol of guidance and threshold. Although he felt terrified of the big change, I wanted to show that it will not necessarily be bad.
